The Second Annual Meeting of the Collaboration Mechanism for Chinese Social Work Held at the Chinese University of Hong Kong

The Annual Meeting of Collaboration Mechanism for Chinese Social Work of 2018, themed "Chinese Social Work Education: Innovation and Enlightenment", was held on December 14 at Yasumoto International Academic Park in the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). The Meeting was hosted by the Department of Social Work, the Chinese University of Hong Kong. The annual meeting mainly focused on the topics of how social work educators could promote social work talents, innovate social work teaching methods and cultivate leaders of non-profit organizations.

 

The Meeting was funded by the World Philanthropy Forum (WPF) , which was jointly organized by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries (CPAFFC), Tsinghua University, the University of Hong Kong (HKU).  The World Philanthropy Forum is dedicated to promoting best practices, academic exchange, talent development, policy advocacy and experience sharing of philanthropy around the globe. Through gathering elites from all over the world, adhering to the spirit of mutual trust and sustainable development, unity for the well-being of mankind, advocating mutual respect, and seeking common ground while reserving differences, the integration and consensus of disciplines, theories, practices, talents and actions were achieved.

Prof. Wong Suk-ying, Associate Vice-President of CUHK, hosted the opening ceremony of the Meeting, and emphasized the importance of the Meeting in laying a good foundation for the future talent development and the cooperation mechanism in Chinese social work. The Meeting has invited Prof. Lee Mo Yee from the Ohio State University and Prof. Lam Ching-man from the Department of Social Work at CUHK to make keynote speeches, to share their experience and perceptions about Chinese social work education. Prof. Evaon Wong-Kim from UCLA, Prof. Goh Chor Leng, Esther from the National University of Singapore, Prof. Yang Peishan from National Taiwan University and Prof. Ngai Sek-yum Steven from CUHK discussed as high-level dialogue speakers on how to cultivate leaders of non-profit organizations.

 About 20 scholars attended a final roundtable group discussion on the future talent development plans for Chinese social work education and the mechanism for collaboration between scholars and practitioners of Chinese social work. It was told that the third Annual Meeting of Collaboration Mechanism for Chinese Social Work will be held in Macau in 2019.
